'Night Time Out' follows the Australian pilot of Midnight Basketball, a program designed to target youth crime in Sydney's Redfern Waterloo area. Held every Saturday night (a high crime period) over a 6 week period the event combines basketball with a series of life skills workshops. These range from team building exercises to sex education.
Indifferent to the rigid structure of the program (namely the workshops) the kids have their own experience of Midnight Basketball. These perspectives are explored through a wise 10 year old boy named Toa and a feisty 15 year old girl Tiare.
'Night Time Out' also follows project managers Sue and Kirsty, outsiders coming into a community they know little about. From their initial fears of being perceived as offensive to their management of 'discipline issues' their journey is a rich one.
Thus over its 6 week duration Midnight Basketball plays host to varying experiences.
