My work is motivated by two interconnected goals; in my personal journey to connect to my own feeling it helps to understand the powerful but limiting nature of assumption. Conceptualization is both the root of powerful human approaches to learning and thinking and also the cornerstone of my dissociative patterns. The performances in the video allow me to seek fulfillment of unmet needs from my childhood: to be understood without speaking. The inevitable failure connects me with my own frustration, helping to change the cycle. For others, the work creates an occasion to re-evaluate notions of self, other and the mechanics of conceptualisation.

“Cross Examination” is the second work in the “Surfaces” project series, following “We Are Each Other,” (2004, 20 minutes). “We Are Each Other” is an exploration of the boundaries between self and other, identity and transference. It is a psychological game of hide and seek, a portrait of what we each bring to our interactions and how easily the lines between us blur.

A very interesting insight into the stereotyping and assumptions we make of others. I think that we actually find out more about the responders through what they say about Josh than what we do about him.

The Film is fantastic! Great idea excellent editing. However there were some almost unwatchable glitches there in the middle. Its not that the audio got slightly off, you simply dont see anyone talking. very weird

very interesting approach to evaluating our assosciations of personality with our physical appearence. for linear narrative junkies, probably not up their alley but I reckon it would suit perfectly as in installation piece. i enjoyed it and am very interested in seeing wat other projects exist in this series- Marcus

5 stars for the idea behind this but minus 1 for "taking the idea and running with it" - could have been better aound the 3 to 3 1/2 minute mark i feel.
